Description
Every sheet of Artway Indigo paper is formed by hand by craftspeople in Northern India, using traditional papermaking methods and 100% cotton offcuts rather than wood pulp. The result is a 250gsm paper with long, strong fibres, natural deckled edges and the small variations in size, shape and tone that only handmade paper has.
The mid texture has a gentle tooth that holds watercolour washes and grips graphite, charcoal and soft pastel. It takes hand-pressed lino and block prints, and its handmade character makes it a natural choice for wedding invitations, place cards, menus, greeting cards and hand-bound journals. For oils, prime the sheet with gesso first; for heavy washes on larger sheets, stretch the paper beforehand.
It's gently sized with a gelatine-free solution, so it's vegan, and it's acid-free with a neutral pH so your work won't yellow over time. Each pack is wrapped in recycled kraft paper. Please note it isn't suitable for inkjet or laser printers.
Size guide
- A1 (approx. 594 x 841mm): 20 sheets. Large-scale paintings and exhibition work.
- A2 (approx. 420 x 594mm): 20 sheets. Large paintings and wall art.
- A3 (approx. 297 x 420mm): 20 sheets. Finished paintings and framed work.
- A4 (approx. 210 x 297mm): 35 sheets. Everyday painting, invitations and menus.
- A5 (approx. 148 x 210mm): 50 sheets. Greeting cards, invitations and bookbinding.
It is important to note that natural variations in paper size, colour and shape will occur between sheets due to the handmade nature of the product; each sheet is totally unique!
Please Note: We do not recommend feeding this paper through a printer (laser/inkjet), this is as the paper is fibrous and could lead towards damage to the printer

Important note for printing: The test shown in the product images was printed on a rear-feed inkjet printer using the “thick paper” setting. The rear feed matters because this paper needs to travel through the printer flat, without bending round a roller. Both parts are equally important, so please check what your printer can handle. Because results can vary between printers, we recommend printing a test sheet before committing to a full batch.
