Core Features

  • Designed for versatility, the surface works well with both soft and dry media types including graphite, soft pastels, charcoal, ink and markers. It even handles a light wash for watercolour sketching.
  • Cotton paper sketchbook in A3 size (297mm x 420mm) containing 40 pages / 80 sides of naturally white smooth cotton paper.
  • Each sketchbook represents waste prevented, not just recycled. The cover is made from pre-consumer denim off-cuts that would otherwise go to landfill, showcasing the material's second life.
  • The paper is both acid-free and fully vegan, made from a mix of cellulose and water. Cotton naturally contains high cellulose, which can be turned into high quality, chemical-free paper.
  • These fine cut, smooth textured cotton rag paper sheets are made from 100% cotton textile waste, which gives the paper a natural matte finish. Made in India by a pioneering green and ethical company.

Description

The Artway Denim Range represents something genuinely different - premium art materials made entirely from pre-consumer waste intercepted at source. Every sketchbook features a durable hardback cover made from pre-consumer denim factory offcuts, paired with exceptional 200gsm cotton rag paper created from pre-consumer textile waste.

Traditional paper production uses 40% of all industrially harvested wood globally. We've taken a different path. Our cotton rag paper is made entirely from clean fabric offcuts collected from garment factories in India - material that never entered the supply chain and would otherwise be discarded. By intercepting these pre-consumer textiles before they become waste, we're keeping forests standing whilst giving valuable materials purpose.

Cotton rag paper has been prized for centuries for important documents and fine art, and for good reason. Naturally acid-free and archival quality, it lasts hundreds of years without yellowing or deteriorating. The long cotton fibres provide exceptional strength and durability that wood-pulp paper cannot match, whilst offering excellent tooth for dry media and smooth enough performance for detailed work.

Made using methods that blend traditional techniques with modern innovation, each sheet begins as sorted cotton textile waste, pulped through a chemical-free process with water-efficient production methods. The denim covers undergo similar processing - synthetic threads removed, cotton-rich fabric pulped and formed into durable covers with a natural denim tone that requires no dyes or bleach.

Crafted as a casebound sketchbook, each denim cover has its own character thanks to natural variations in the pre-consumer waste, giving you a unique sketchbook with a smooth, clean surface and durable protection for your work.

In A3 but also available in A4, A5, and A6 sizes with 40 pages (80 sides) of versatile cotton rag paper—perfect for soft and dry media like graphite, soft pastels, charcoal, ink, and markers. It even handles light watercolour sketching washes.

PLEASE NOTE: We reccomend using a putty rubber over a traditional eraser to remove soft media marks as the paper can 'lift' with repeated rubbings out.

By choosing the Denim Range, you're supporting skilled artisans in India, preventing textile waste before it reaches landfill, and proving that sustainable materials can exceed traditional alternatives in both quality and performance.
